Some countries have categorized and classified types of recalls. Food producers should become familiar with their country’s recall regulations and requirements and structure their procedures to comply. For example, in the United States there are three classifications for removal of products:
- Class I recall: reasonable probability of serious adverse health consequences or death.
- Class II recall: may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is low.
- Class III recall: not likely to cause adverse health consequences.
