Preparing a sample

The Peanut Innovation Lab uses this graphic to demonstrate how, by grinding an adequate sample size, the test result will more accurately show the overall condition of the lot.

Preparing the sample taken for analysis is also important.

Samples may need to be shelled or ground into a paste or powder. The particle size of the grind is also important, with finer size resulting in better representation within the analytical sample.

If the entire sample cannot be processed, it is important to take as large a sub-sample as possible to provide the most accurate measure of aflatoxin concentration.
