Intercropping

Intercropping is similar to crop rotation, except that instead of planting different crops each year, two or more different crops are planted together in one year
Intercropping can have similar benefits as crop rotation in managing pests and soil nutrients

When intercropping, it is important to choose crops that can grow together without competing too much.

Groundnut can tolerate some shade, so intercropping with taller crops such as maize can be successful.

Maize and sorghum are common intercrops with groundnut

If the cereal is the main crop being grown, two or three rows of cereal can be alternated with one row of groundnut
