Crop rotation

Growing groundnut in the same field for many years can cause many problems.

Disease, weeds, and insect pests that attack groundnut can become established. The soil can be depleted of nutrients like calcium that peanut need.

Crop rotation – planting a different crop in a field each year – is a good way of managing disease, weeds, insects, and soil nutrients, since different crops have different nutrient needs and different pests.

Rotations with groundnut and cereals are often successful

Examples of crop rotation:

•Maize

•Sorghum

•Millet

•Cassava and sweet potato can also be rotated with groundnut
